Head-of-Bed Elevation (15–20cm)

for Acid Reflux

Raising the head end of the bed by 15–20cm uses gravity to prevent nighttime acid reflux. More effective than extra pillows, which can worsen reflux.

How it works

Gravity keeps stomach contents below the lower oesophageal sphincter during sleep. Reduces mucosal acid exposure time during the night.

What to watch for

Use bed risers or a wedge under the mattress — not just extra pillows. Pillows flex the waist and can increase intra-abdominal pressure, worsening reflux.
