How it works
Iron is a cofactor for tyrosine hydroxylase, the enzyme that synthesises dopamine. Iron deficiency impairs dopaminergic function specifically in the nigrostriatal and mesolimbic pathways relevant to ADHD.
Test ferritin before supplementing — excess iron is harmful. Evidence is specifically for iron-deficient children with ADHD; supplementing children with normal iron levels is not supported.
