How it works
Centralises and reduces referred pain by reducing posterior disc bulge pressure. Restores full range of movement in the directionally preferred axis.
Requires assessment by a McKenzie-trained physiotherapist to identify directional preference. A minority of patients respond to flexion-based exercises instead.
Multiple RCTs show McKenzie method is at least as effective as other physiotherapy approaches for acute and chronic LBP, with an advantage in teaching self-management.
