How it works
Blocks cysteinyl leukotriene receptors, reducing the leukotriene-driven component of allergic inflammation β especially nasal congestion and bronchospasm.
Requires a prescription. Black box warning for neuropsychiatric effects (mood changes, sleep disturbance) β monitor closely. Inferior to nasal steroids as monotherapy.
Multiple RCTs confirm montelukast reduces allergic rhinitis symptoms significantly versus placebo. Particularly useful as add-on therapy when antihistamines and nasal steroids provide incomplete relief.

βSome improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.β
