A leukotriene receptor antagonist that reduces nasal and eye symptoms in hay fever. Useful when antihistamines alone are insufficient, particularly for congestion.
How it works
Blocks cysteinyl leukotriene receptors, reducing the leukotriene-driven component of allergic inflammation — especially nasal congestion and bronchospasm.
What to watch for
Requires a prescription. Black box warning for neuropsychiatric effects (mood changes, sleep disturbance) — monitor closely. Inferior to nasal steroids as monotherapy.
