NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen)

for Period Pain (Dysmenorrhoea)

Oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used for arthritis pain relief and inflammation reduction, with both over-the-counter and prescription options available.

How it works

Inhibit COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, blocking prostaglandin synthesis and reducing pain and inflammation. Selective COX-2 inhibitors (e.g. celecoxib) have better GI tolerability.

What to watch for

Most effective when started 1-2 days before period or at first sign of cramping. Take with food. Not for those with aspirin sensitivity.
