How it works
Menthol, the active compound in peppermint oil, activates TRPM8 cold receptors and inhibits serotonin receptor signalling. It also improves peripheral blood flow and reduces frontalis muscle tension.
Must be diluted before skin application (typically 10% in a carrier oil) — do not apply undiluted. Avoid contact with eyes. Not suitable for use near young children or infants.
Availability
Available at pharmacies and health food stores. Consider a patch test before full application if you have sensitive skin.
