How it works

Sexual activity can introduce bacteria into the urethra. Urinating promptly afterwards physically flushes these bacteria before they can travel to the bladder.

Effective as prevention, not treatment. Also helpful to drink a glass of water before intercourse to ensure ability to urinate afterwards.

Why moderate evidence

Consistent epidemiological evidence and universal clinical recommendation. Post-coital urination is one of the most evidence-supported behavioural interventions for recurrent UTI prevention.

β€œSome improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.”
