How it works
Binds voltage-gated calcium channels in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord and brain, reducing the hyperexcitable central pain processing characteristic of fibromyalgia.
What to watch for
Prescription only. Common side effects: dizziness, sedation, weight gain, and oedema. Cognitive dulling reported by some patients. Taper when discontinuing — do not stop abruptly. Risk of dependence.
