Psyllium husk supplement (5–10g with a full glass of water) taken daily as a bulk-forming laxative.

How it works

Absorbs water in the gut to form a viscous gel, bulking and softening stool and stimulating peristaltic movement.

What to watch for

Must be taken with at least 240ml of water — without adequate fluid can cause choking or worsen constipation. Can reduce absorption of some medications — take separately.
