Smaller, More Frequent Meals

for Acid Reflux

Eating smaller portions 4–5 times daily rather than 2–3 large meals reduces gastric distension and the mechanical pressure on the lower oesophageal sphincter.

How it works

Large meals increase intragastric pressure, forcing acid through the LOS. Smaller meals reduce this pressure and the total acid load in the stomach.

What to watch for

Last meal should be at least 3 hours before lying down. Avoid lying down or vigorous exercise immediately after eating.
