How it works
Increase synaptic serotonin (SSRIs) or serotonin and norepinephrine (SNRIs). Reduce amygdala hyperreactivity and improve prefrontal regulation of fear responses over weeks.
Require a prescription. Initial worsening of anxiety possible in weeks 1β2 β start at half dose. Do not stop abruptly. Sexual side effects are common. May take 6β8 weeks for full benefit.
Meta-analyses confirm SSRIs and SNRIs are highly effective for generalised anxiety, panic disorder, and social anxiety. Combination with CBT outperforms either alone.

βSome improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.β
