for UTI
Daily vitamin C supplementation to acidify the urine and create a less hospitable environment for bacterial growth, used as a prevention strategy for recurrent UTIs.
How it works
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) lowers urinary pH when excreted. Many uropathogens including E. coli grow poorly in acidic urine. High urinary vitamin C may also have direct antimicrobial properties.
What to watch for
More useful as prevention than acute treatment. High doses (>1000mg/day) may increase kidney stone risk in susceptible individuals. Not a substitute for antibiotics in active infection.
