for Osteoporosis
Vitamin K2 (MK-7 form) activates osteocalcin, a bone protein essential for incorporating calcium into bone matrix — with evidence for improving bone strength and reducing fracture risk.
How it works
Carboxylates osteocalcin, enabling it to bind calcium in bone matrix. Also reduces matrix Gla protein activity, preventing soft tissue calcification. Works synergistically with vitamin D.
What to watch for
Use MK-7 form (not K1 or MK-4) at 90–180mcg/day. Interacts with warfarin — avoid in patients on anticoagulants. Japanese trials using pharmacological K2 doses (45mg MK-4) show strongest fracture evidence; lower supplement doses have weaker data.
